University of Split’s Department of Professional Studies’ emphasizes profession in every part of its work.

The university department for professional studies positioned itself as a recognizable institution of professional higher education. Study programs with their teaching processes are designed in the way that applies theoretical knowledge with the aim of preparing students for entering the labor market. Students acquiring professional competences and skills is achieved in maximum professor/student interaction, with as much personal approach to every individual, active student participation in solving current business cases, tasks and issues the study program covers, by including practicing experts in teaching, as well as numerous field visits.

The department is oriented towards constant active participation in change, which provide students with modern and efficient education, as well as contribute to growing and developing a modern higher education institution, which will continue to strengthen its capacity to recognize, adapt to and initiate change.

STUDY PROGRAMS

Study programs conducted at University Department of Professional Studies are compatible with the market.

UNDERGRADUATE PROFESSIONAL STUDIES

Power Engineering

Students, according to personal preferences, opt for majors by enrolling elective groups of professional modules.

The two groups are Electric energy systems and Industry power systems.

According to experiences up to date, there are, depending on selected modules, employment prospects in areas of production, transmission and distribution of electricity, in energy plants, as well as number of companies engaged in designing and manufacturing electrical installations, energy plants, tools and other complex parts and devices. Students are trained to manage and maintain electric power systems and industrial plants.

The study of Electrical Power Engineering is organized in modules and lasts for six (6) semesters for full-time, or eight (8) semesters for part-time students, with same number of classes.

Completing the professional study program, students obtain 180 ECTS credits and the title professional bachelor in electrical power engineering.

Electronics

Students can opt for one of two professional elective modules: Telecommunications, Applied Electronics and Mechatronics.

Completing the study, employment can be expected in public and private telecommunications companies, industrial plants in shipbuilding, cement, chemical and metal industries, as well as electricity and construction industries, hospitals and the like.

The professional study of Electronics is organized in modules and lasts for six (6) semesters for full-time, or eight (8) semesters for part-time students, with the same number of teaching hours.

Completing the professional study program, students acquire 180 ECTS credits and the title professional bachelor electronics engineer.

Mechanical engineering

Main goal and purpose of the undergraduate professional study of "Construction Engineering" is acquiring theoretical and practical professional knowledge necessary for work in engineering. Participants who complete this study program will have mastered constructing processes and making calculations with computers, both in terms of profession and organization.

The study lasts for 6 semesters (3 years) for full-time or 8 semesters (4 years) for part-time students, with the same number of teaching hours. The study has a total of 180 ECTS, or 30 credits per semester, and completing it, students earn the title: professional bachelor of mechanical engineering.

Computing

Participants who complete this study program are quickly able to adapt to current demands set by today's extremely dynamic labor market in the IT industry.

Undergraduate professional study of computer science provides basic knowledge in programming, designing web pages, developing computer networks and information systems, as well as theoretical and practical knowledge of creating and using databases, object and web interface programming, as well as computer architecture. The study offers many elective courses with which students can satisfy their interests.

Professional courses are regularly renewed, to be in line with trends in technology, and a large number of elective courses further increases study’s dynamic character. Traineeships are performed in cooperation with economic subjects, whereby students go to workplaces where they get teaching and practical skills in real working environment.

The undergraduate professional study of Computer Science at University of Split’s Department lasts for 3 years (180 ECTS credits) and provides the theoretical and practical knowledge necessary for work in the field. Completing the study, students get the title: professional bachelor of computer engineering.

Accounting and Finance

Accounting and Finance study program is based on the latest professional and scientific knowledge.

This study’s most important feature is that it prepares students for independent and practical work after graduation. The study also provides theoretical and practical knowledge in fields of accounting, finance and taxes, directly applicable in practical and necessary in everyday work.

Courses in the study follow Croatia’s latest accounting, financial and tax regulations, as well as scientific achievements in developing accounting, finance and taxes.

Students completing the three-year study can enroll the Specialist Bachelor's degree Accounting and Finance, which lasts four (4) semesters, after which they get additional 120 ECTS (300 credits in total) and the title professional specialist in accounting and finance.

Trade and tourism management

This is a version of professional undergraduate study of Trade Business, modified with the aim of adapting to changes in society and economy. These changes were necessary in order for this study program to be at the level of latest scientific or professional knowledge, as well as trends and skills based on them.

In accordance with the needs of economy in this part of Croatia, taking into consideration increasing demand for experts competent in trade and tourism, who think like entrepreneurs and demonstrate self-employment initiatives, such a modified study program increases its appeal and follows needs of today's labor market and economic environment.

The study lasts for six semesters, with students choosing one of two modules, Trade and Entrepreneurship or Tourism and Hospitality.

Completing the study, students acquire 180 ECTS credits and professional bachelor's degree in economics.

SPECIALIST PROFESSIONAL GRADUATE STUDY

Electrical engineering

Today's sophisticated economy and manufacturing material goods and services require an educated workforce that can drive further development, constant transformation and adaptation to new conditions. Expertise and skills enable faster integration into production processes in our area and represent the basis for understanding and monitoring development trends in certain specialist areas of technical sciences.

Specialized professional graduate study of Electrical Engineering’s four modules:

Radio communications

• Integrated communication technologies

• Industrial electronics

• Electrical energy

The study program lasts for two years (4 semesters – 120 ECTS credits). Completing the study, students get the professional title Electrical engineering specialist.

Applied computing (information technology)

The study’s goal is to enable students acquiring additional specialist knowledge and skills so they can keep up with the profession’s progress.

The study was designed and formed based on previous knowledge and experience working in education and needs of students who have completed professional study and expressed a desire to continue their studies.

In this study, participants are introduced to various areas of computer science, such as web and mobile technologies, software engineering, managing databases and a whole range of current and interesting courses such as artificial intelligence, cryptocurrencies or agile software development methods.

The graduate specialist professional study of Applied Computer science, at University of Split’s Department for Professional Studies, lasts for 2 years (120 ECTS credits) and completing it, students get the title: professional specialist computer engineer.

Mechanical engineering

The proposed study program was designed so that students acquire knowledge and skills they need to perform highly specialized engineering jobs.

Specialist knowledge and skills will not only enable faster integration into production processes, but also provide a basis for understanding and monitoring development trends in certain specialist areas of mechanical engineering.

A strong motivation for enrolling the proposed study is the fact that completing it, one acquires the level of education that is required to pass professional exam and obtain the status of engineer.

The study program lasts for two years (4 semesters – 120 ECTS credits).

Completing this study, students acquire the professional title "Professional specialist in mechanical engineering”.

Accounting and finance

Students who successfully complete the specialist graduate program Accounting and Finance will be able to meet all requirements placed before middle and higher management in any company or institution.

Starting from the current economic situation and what is expected in near future, in terms of development, in the area of ​​Split-Dalmatia County and beyond, the proposed specialist professional graduate study program, by training personnel, aims to satisfy both current and future needs for experts in finance and accounting.

The study program lasts for two years (4 semesters – 120 ECTS credits).

Completing the study, students get the professional title "Specialist in accounting and finance”.

Business trade

In accordance with the needs of economy in this part of Croatia, taking into consideration increasing demand for experts competent in trade and tourism, who think like entrepreneurs and demonstrate self-employment initiatives, such a modified study program increases its appeal and follows needs of today's labor market and economic environment.

Creating the program for this study, emphasis was placed on training students for effective business management and entrepreneurial thinking in sectors of trade and tourism, focused on entrepreneurial, proactive and innovative thinking and behavior. Acquired specialist theoretical and practical knowledge in trade and tourism will result in management skills for performing complex trade and tourism operations.

The study lasts for four semesters, with students choosing one of two modules: Trade and Entrepreneurship or Tourism and Hospitality.

Completing the study, students obtain 120 ECTS credits and the professional title specialist in economics.

- All Department’s study programs are performed in accordance with the latest professional and scientific knowledge, both current and future market needs, taking into account Croatian Employment Service’s Recommendations for enrollment and scholarship policies, Zagreb Institute of Economics’ Recommendations concerning future labor market trends, McKinsey Global Institute Guidelines - Future of Work in Europe, and European Centre for Developing Vocational Training’s prediction of required skills in Croatia’s labor market 2020 (as well as Statistical reports on graduates’ employability, Split-Dalmatia County’s Report on labor market and human resources in 2018, Ministry of Labor and Pensions’ Sectoral analysis and information on labor market - according to Croatian qualifications framework).

- The Department focuses a lot of attention on strengthening cooperation with economy and the public sector as a whole, in various forms of professional and development projects, as well as other forms of cooperating with the environment. These activities contribute to Department's proactive role in the community and its status as an institution that should, and strives to, be an active partner to society. With that in mind, in July 2021, we had the Third Round Table - "Let us shape studies of mechanical engineering together", where former students confirmed that University Department of Professional Studies’ programs were aligned with employers’ needs, and all employers agree that they never had a bad engineer and that students come to them with excellent prior knowledge

- The Department of Professional Studies implements a series of projects, one of them being "Improving and implementing traineeships at University’s Department for Professional Studies" which aims to establish traineeships office, whose activities would improve student support and improve traineeship models, strengthened the Department’s capacities and students’ level of knowledge and skills. Partners in the project are Akuo Energy Med ltd., LAMA ltd., DELTRON ltd., Delić Dielektrik ltd., companies ERICSSON NIKOLA TESLA and CEMEX Croatia, and others.

- Department also organizes the "Summer school for three courses in the area of ​​business and administration and electrical engineering in English.

- It hosts numerous lecturers from abroad and takes part in ERASMUS+.

- The Student Business Incubator Kopilica (Spik@ - student business club) operates within the Department, aimed to exchanging experiences and expertise, encouraging and developing entrepreneurial skills, and making new friends.

- Department organizes many conferences, seminars, lectures by experts, study trips and other professional gatherings for its students.
