UniCompoST Classroom project completed – Split’s primary and secondary schools’ pupils acquired knowledge and skills necessary for community’s green transformation

Split Faculty of Chemistry and Technology’s Alumni Association implemented the project "UniCompoST Classroom" in 2022, focused on developing knowledge and skills in fields of waste management, circular economy and sustainable development, which are necessary for green transformation of the community, in young people still in primary and secondary education.

Goals of the project were to educate people about comprehensive waste management and techniques of recycling waste, to increase awareness of the necessity of proper waste management, encourage users to implement the concept of circular economy in their everyday life and activities, as well as to encourage implementing practical aspects of environmental orientation in educational institutions.

The project covered 10 educational institutions in the city of Split with 14 classes and a total of 316 pupils. It involved a mixed learning program, consisting of video educations as preparations in theory and a set of four practical, interactive workshops in educational institutions. In addition to videos, educational infographics and a lexicon of waste management were also created and, specifically for educational institutions’ employees, methodologies for working with pupils in this area, practical assignments, exercises and experiments, as well as a comprehensive manual for the area covered. The project lasted from January 1 to December 31, 2022, and was financed with EU European Solidarity Corps program funds.
