Success of the ninth Symposium on Zeolites at the Faculty of Chemical Technology

The ninth Croatian-Slovenian-Serbian symposium on zeolites took place September 23-25 at the Faculty of Chemistry and Technology, University of Split.

Main topic of the symposium were environmentally friendly aluminum-silicate natural and synthetic minerals, zeolites and similar materials such as clay, bentonite and apatite, widely used in wastewater treatment as well as surface and groundwater, landfill leachate, cement industry, construction, agriculture, medicine, as catalysts, etc.

Despite difficulties caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, the symposium was successfully held in a hybrid form with a total of 32 oral presentations, four of which plenary and four invited, together with 24 section lectures. As plenary speakers, the symposium was attended by prof. Svetlana Mintova from University of Normandy’s Laboratory for Catalysis and Spectrochemistry (Cean, France) and prof. Valentin Valtchev, from said laboratory and the Qingdao Institute for Bioenergy and Bioprocess Technologies (Laoshan District, Qingdao, China), prof. Girolamo Giordano and prof. Massimo Migliori from the Laboratory for Chemical Engineering, Catalysis and Sustainable Processes, University of Calabria (Italy).

This international conference was organized by the Croatian Zeolite Association (HZU), in cooperation with the Slovenian Zeolite Association (SiZA) and the Zeolite Society of Serbia (ZDS), with the support of the Faculty of Chemistry and Technology in Split. The Croatian Chamber of Commerce - Split County Chamber and companies Labtim ltd. and Jasika ltd, supported the meeting. The Zeolite Symposium takes place every two years, periodically in Croatia, Slovenia and Serbia. In addition to scientists from the region, this symposium brings together eminent experts from other parts of Europe. Beginnings of this symposium date back to 2008, when the 1st Croatian Zeolite Symposium with international participation organized by the Croatian Zeolite Association was held at the Faculty of Chemistry and Technology in Split.
