Regarding the upcoming Science Festival, principals of secondary schools in Split and Split-Dalmatia County met in Rectorate's hall with University of Split’s Prof. Nikola Koceić Bilan Ph.D., Vice-rector for students, teaching and business, Prof. Igor Jerković Ph.D., Vice-rector for Science and Quality, Prof. Nikša Jajac Ph.D., Vice-rector for infrastructure, and Domagoja Buljan Barbača Ph.D., operative head of Science Festival’s Organizing Committee. The meeting was also attended by the head of Science office, Petra Jelić, her colleague Ana Grgić, head of project implementation, Tonka Petričević, and head of office for education, Gabrijela Budimir.
Along with announcing events and activities related to Science Festival, topic of discussion was also further improving cooperation.
The issue of continuing education after graduating from secondary school, at University of Split, was highlighted as still the most important topic, given the fact that all universities face the challenge of attracting and retaining young people, in view of declining number of students. Vice-rector Koceić-Bilan noted that presentation of the University, held in December, was an excellent activity that allowed students to find out everything they wanted to know about conditions of enrolling and study programs, in a casual, relaxed atmosphere.
Science Festival of is a manifestation whose goal is University’s both educational and social role, that is popularization of science. It is also an opportunity for students to get acquainted with our constituents’ activities.
Vice-rector Jerković emphasized that the goal of the meeting was to motivate pupils to join Science Festival, which offers over 200 activities this year, on Campus, but also in other locations in the city and county.
Vice-rector Jajac also emphasized how important is to develop infrastructure because, as he said, these modernly equipped spaces offer research opportunities at the level of other research groups within European research area.
Prof. Domagoja Buljan Brbača and Tonka Petričević presented Festival’s more detailed program and activities to the principals.
