Science and research are fun - European Researchers’ Night had over 7,000 visitors

European Researchers’ Night took place successfully and with great public interest on September 30, 2022, with the motto "I research!" in Split, Pula, Zadar and Dubrovnik as well as in Rijeka on October 1.

Croatia was among 25 European countries that this year hosted this manifestation popularizing science, which has been, since 2005, traditionally throughout Europe at the end of September.

European Researchers’ Night is the main activity of Horizon Europe’s project Reconnect Science with the Blue Society (Blue-connect) which brings together partners from Croatia’s Mediterranean part, whose research covers the natural, biomedical, ecological, social and economic aspects of the sea. The project is implemented by coordinating University of Split and partners: Institute for Oceanography and Fisheries, Mediterranean Institute for Life Research, Institute for Adriatic Cultures and Karst Reclamation, University of Dubrovnik, University of Zadar, Juraj Dobrila University of Pula and University of Rijeka’s scientific-technology park STEPRI.

Project activities are recognized and supported as part of the UN’s initiative "Decade of Oceans (2021-2030)", which aims to highlight the importance of sustainable use and protection of seas and oceans, as well as to strengthen public awareness of the need for new research and use of existing scientific data, in order to understand the effects seas and oceans are exposed to.

Although the sea is the main topic connecting project partners, topics such as human health, climate change, smart cities, food, and many others are represented, with an emphasis on importance for life and developing of society in the Mediterranean.

In addition to European Researchers’ Night of, the Blue-connect project includes many other activities...

The Blue-connect project lasts until October 31, 2023, which means that the implementation of second European Researchers’ Night is secure and will take place September 29, 2023.

Visits elementary and secondary schools, researchers will introduce students to scientific achievements in an understandable and interesting way, in order to stimulate their curiosity and arouse researchers’ spirit.
