Renowned world physicist, prof. Goran Senjanović Ph.D., visited University of Split

Prof. Goran Senjanović Ph.D., world-renowned physicist, and prof. Danica Ramljak Ph.D., University of Split Rector’s adviser, visited the Rectorate and met prof. Dragan Ljutić Ph.D., University of Split Rector and Ivana Pletković, Head of his Office. Among other things, at the meeting, they talked about potential future cooperation between prof. Senjanović, who was born in Split, with our University.

Prof. Goran Senjanović Ph.D. authored 152 papers that have been quoted some 15,000 times (h-index 50). He graduated from the University of Belgrade in physics and got his PhD at City University in New York. Mr. Senjanović has spent his entire career at world's leading institutions and is currently emeritus at ICTP in Trieste, where he spent many years as a researcher and has been Gran Sasso Science Institute’s director of research since 2013, in L'Aquila, Italy.

One of leading new ideas in the field of modern particle physics is the unification of strong, weak and electromagnetic forces. Together with William Marciano, prof. Senjanović wrote a famous scientific paper, which proved that the unification of forces is a natural consequence of so far undetected symmetry known as "supersymmetry". In their work, they predicted a high mass for the so-called top quark, which was confirmed fifteen years later. The search for supersymmetric particles is one of CERN Large Hadron Collider’s main goals today.
