Rector Ljutić at the Ceremonial Academy on the 1600th anniversary of St. Jerome’s death

The Split-Makarska Archdiocese of and the Split-Dalmatia County celebrate the Jubilee of the 1600th anniversary of the death of St. Jerome, the patron saint of Dalmatia, from September 24 to 30. After organizing the International Scientific Conference on St. Jerome, presenting his statue and having a media promotion of the book "Dedicated to Saint Jerome", a ceremonial academy was organized on Tuesday, September 29, at the Faculty of Medicine in Split.

The following addressed the audience: Archbishop of Split and Makarska Msgr. Marin Barišić, Split-Dalmatia County Prefect Blaženko Boban, Split Mayor Andro Krstulović Opara and the Rector of the University of Split prof. Dragan Ljutić PhD, while a lecture on St. Jerome was held by Cardinal José Tolentino Calaça de Mendonça, archivist and librarian of the Holy Roman Church. The program was attended by: Msgr. Želimir Puljić, President of the Croatian Bishops’ Conference (CBC) and Archbishop of Zadar, Archbishop of Split and Makarska Coadjutor Msgr. Dražen Kutleša, Bishop of Dubrovnik Msgr. Mate Uzinić, Bishop of Šibenik, Msgr. Tomislav Rogić, envoy of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Croatia Mr. Ante Sanader, Mayor of Solin Dalibor Ninčević, Dean of Catholic Faculty of Theology in Split (KBF) prof. Dr. Mladen Parlov, provincials, representatives of cultural and scientific institutions.

Rector prof. Dr. Ljutić emphasized that St. Jerome is associated with the general civility of our state and that he influenced our writers: Toma Archdeacon, Marko Marulić, Don Frane Bulić, Ivan Meštrović and many residents of Dalmatia who contributed to the growth and development of our state, society and University. He pointed out that the University of Split is particularly proud of its humanities, the Faculties of Philosophy and Theology, as well as the study of Jerome's thought, which influenced many our scholars. He reminded us that our many squares, streets and statues bear the name of this great saint.
