News from ST-OPEN, a screening journal of the University of Split

ST-OPEN is a project of the University of Split. After two years of preparing, working and studying, the first scientific articles were published on the official website of the ST-OPEN journal: http://st-open.unist.hr/index.php/st-open/issue/view/1ce. These are three editorials and six research articles in English that underwent two domestic and foreign reviews.

ST-OPEN is a new type of screening (overlay) scientific journal that publishes its content on the Internet. The journal is multi- and interdisciplinary, aimed at producing scientific articles out of student graduate and final theses, with editors collaborating with students and their mentors intensively.
Articles are posted on the Journal's website after being reviewed and accepted by the Editorial Board. We expect to publish some 20 more scientific articles that are currently in various stages of development.

According to Danijel Gudelj, the Journal’s technical editor, the long-term process of converting graduate theses into scientific articles was full of obstacles and would not have been possible without the help of the Editorial Board, consisting of one member from each of the University of Split’s components, the Advisory Board, composed of international experts, the journal’ Student Committee as well as fellow librarians coming from all constituents. The Editorial Board owes special thanks to Professor Ana Marušić, from the Faculty of Medicine, for numerous advice she provided for organizing the journal and articles, as well as to colleague Anri Parčina-Rešić, from the Faculty of Maritime Studies, who helped in each phase of setting up the Journal’s electronic system.

By fulfilling all the criteria, the journal entered the database Portal of Croatian scientific and professional journals - Hrčak, and by signing the agreement with the Croatian Office for DOI (Digital Object Identifier), this important and unique identifier was obtained. This completes the story of St-Open, a serious scientific journal unique in the world for its focus on the university repository and student final theses - which, when possible, it turns into scientific articles in English.

The editorial board would like to thank the students who agreed to cooperate with the Journal and hope that the publication of scientific research articles will be an incentive for cooperation and their colleagues.
All information about contacts, collaboration and work can be found on the Journal's website.
