Legend of winemaking turns one century

Miljenko Grgić recorded his first big victory in 1976 in Paris, at a historic blind tasting of the best French and Californian wines. In the white wine category, his Chateau Montelena Chardonnay from 1973 won against the centuries-old wine region of Burgundy. Numerous American newspapers and magazines reported and celebrated Grgić's victory and announced a new era of American wine...

After that, it seems, everything else is history…

Professors and students of the university study of Mediterranean agriculture discussed, among other things, the life and work of Miljenko Grgić, his childhood in the village of Desne in Croatia, his departure abroad, years of research and mastering winemaking technology, all the way to solving the great mystery of zinfandel origin.

With a small delay, on the occasion of his 100th birthday, we wish Miljenko Grgić good health and vitality.
