“K.I.P. 2” at the University Gallery

Student sculpture exhibition entitled “K.I.P.2” (meaning ‘sculpture’), officially opened on Thursday, April 14, 2022 at the University Gallery, in the presence of many visitors and will remain open until May 2, 2022. After last year's K. I. P. exhibition, this is Split Academy of Arts’ Department of Art Sculpture’s second exhibition.

Exhibiting authors are PETAR BOSNIĆ, KARMEN BUŠIĆ, MARKO ĆURIĆ, ANAMARIJA KAHRIĆ, MIRNA MARKOTIĆ, PIA MIDŽOR, MAGDALENA MODRIĆ, PETRA PERKOVIĆ, ROKO DRŽISLAV REBIĆ, RUŽICA RIMAC, NIKOLA SANDULOVIĆ, DANIJELA SKOKANDIĆ, NIKOLINA VELJAČIĆ, TAJANA VELJAČIĆ.

The exhibition concept was created by assistant professors Đani Martinić, Goran Balić and Duje Matetić from Split Academy of Arts’s Department of Sculpture, with the support of University of Split and its Gallery concerning organization and support of Croatia’s Ministry of Culture and Media. When the exhibition ends, the Sculpture Department will award the best work. The expert jury will consist of Department of Sculpture professors Kažimir Hraste, Matko Mijić, Nikola Džaja, from the Department of Painting professor Vedran Perkov, and author of the text accompanying the exhibition Dujo Jakovčević.

The award comes in the form of a certificate, or diploma awarded by the head of Sculpture Department, along with ‘Ujević’ Foundry in Zagreb, which will sponsor a cast of the best sculptural work in the value of HRK 5,000.00, Đani Martinić pointed out when he was opening the exhibition.

"What comes to mind when we first mention the term ‘academy’ is that it is a place whose primary task is education, in that sense the technical skill of all student works is unquestionable but, on the other hand, since the ancient Greeks the academy has been a place for freedom of thought and creation. In this way, the first of two classical roles of art was achieved. The second thing I want to say something about refers to the quantitative and qualitative level of exhibited works. When we look at these two categories, the number and achieved aesthetic and intellectual levels in exhibited works, we can easily see that these student works represent one of the best parts of current art production in our city," said Duje Jakovčević, M.Sc. history and art history.

Academic Kažimir Hraste opened the exhibition, congratulating the authors, saying that this is second such exhibition and that he hopes that it will become traditional. He also pointed out that exhibitions like this one provide an opportunity for students to connect, communicate and get acquainted with their colleagues’ work, but also that this is a stage for visitors to critically observe sculptures.
