International Science and Arts Symposium "Ivan Lukačić, Conductor of the Split Cathedral"

On the occasion of the 400 anniversary of the publication of Sacrae Cantiones collection, the Catholic Faculty of Theology and the Academy of Arts, University of Split, are organizing the international scientific and artistic symposium "Ivan Lukačić, Conductor of the Split Cathedral", to be held November 12 to 14, 2020 in the Archdiocese Seminary and the Cathedral of St. Dominus in Split.

The scientific part of the program will bring together eminent experts who will unite and connect many aspects of Lukačić's work, from different angles, as well as highlight how important this composer is, both to national and European music history. Music workshops will take place in the Cathedral of St. Dominus under the guidance of domestic and foreign artists. A record of 27 Lukačić's motets performed by the international ensemble MUSICA ADRIATICA will be presented at the end of the symposium.

Ivan Lukačić (Šibenik, 1585 - Split, September 20, 1648), was a conductor of the Split Cathedral and Saint Francis Monastery’s guardian where he was buried next to Marko Marulić. Lukačić was an early Baroque composer who printed the collection of poems Sacrae cantiones, his only preserved collection of compositions, in Venice 400 years ago (1620-2020), found in the Jagiellonian Library in Krakow, Poland.
Respecting the epidemiological measures, the symposium is open to the general public.
