Split is a city of sun, sea, tourism and sports; students and futsal will have a special place under the sun this summer. This is because of the 11th European University Futsal Championship, the biggest sports event in Split during the tourist season, which will bring together the international academic community. 32 teams, 20 in men's category and 12 in women's, will feel all the charms of the city under the hill Marjan in a symbiosis of sports, education and tourism. The championship will take place July 18 to 26, 2023, and sports halls in Gripe and Poljud will host the futsal spectacle. With more than 700 participants arriving, we will (especially) keep track of Croatian representatives: University of Split (M & F), Edward Bernays Polytechnic (M) and University of Zagreb (M & F), current champions of last year's European University Games in Poland.
European universities’ teams will play over 100 matches, and along with organizers: the European University Sports Association (EUSA), Croatian Academic Sports Association, University of Split and Split University Sports Association; volunteers are the heart of this event. These dear and hard-working people originated from Unisport's long-standing volunteer program (largest in Europe), will clock over 15,000 volunteer hours into this story. Numerous members of university futsal teams are also professionals on the field, which makes them the best example of developing dual careers.
Rector, prof. Dragan Ljutić Ph.D. provides great support to Split’s teams and the entire event: "Sport brings us together, university sports are more and more popular, and youth gives us inspiration. I can already say that we are eagerly awaiting arrival of all teams in the heart of Split. You can be sure that we are here for you. Unforgettable memories with city of Split’s energy of are what I believe will be most beautiful souvenir for all participants", University of Split’s Rector pointed out.
The organizers, with enormous help and support from volunteers, are in charge of the competition taking place according to plan. Toni Gamulin, from Unisport team, answered what is the secret of success: "Hosting EUSA futsal championship is a confirmation of our entire team’s years of quality work. We want to ad to city of Split’s offer during summer months with new ideas and innovations, that is promote Split as tourist and academic destination."
