The fourth International Student Biennale was opened yesterday at the Multimedia Cultural Center Split, organized by the Academy of Arts and Culture in Osijek and the Academy of Arts in Split.

The theme of this year's International Student Biennale was determined-set by asking potential participants these questions: "What would your artistic activity look like if it depended only on you"? If there were no trends, styles, critics, gallerists... If there was only your audience, unencumbered by social contracts and art system imperatives? If you could choose the best painting, sculpture, installation, video or performance you have ever done or dared to imagine - what would they look like?” Unlimited freedom in art at the same time creates doubt in one’s abilities as it opens possibilities for total creativity.

This year's open call received more than 160 proposals from art academy students from all over Europe and several from Australia. Jury consisted of Vedran Perkov, Academy of Arts in Split, and Miran Blažek, Domagoj Sušac, Ana Petrović and Krešimir Purgar from the Academy of Arts and Culture in Osijek.

In the future, International Student Biennale’s organizers do not see it tied down-limited- to only one location but want to develop it towards environments with vibrant art and urban scenes. Their goal is to make this event "mobile", that is that after visiting Croatian cities in its first years, that in the future it crosses national borders and becomes a real European exhibition brand with Croatian roots.

At the exhibition’s opening, this year's International Student Biennale’s Ivan Ladislav Galeta Award winner and winners of two equally important awards were announced. The winners will be able to realize solo exhibitions in Osijek in 2022.

The exhibition will remain open until July 28 every weekday from 6 to 10 p.m.
