FINAL CONFERENCE OF THE INTERIV PROJECT "INTERNATIONALIZATION OF STUDY PROGRAMS OF MARINE FISHERIES AND MILITARY NAVAL STUDIES” AT UNIVERSITY OF SPLIT

Two new University of Split’s study programs in English, graduate study of Marine Fisheries and integrated Military Navy study were presented at the "InteRiV" project’s final conference.

They will contribute to improving the quality and importance of higher education through internationalization and integrating Republic of Croatia into the European Union’s higher education area.

Total value of the project is HRK 1,750,274.03, and it was co-financed by the European Union from the European Social Fund. University of Split is the applicant/beneficiary of the project, together with Faculty of Maritime Studies, Faculty of Humanities and social sciences and the University Library all from Split, as partners.

Prof. Leandra Vranješ Markić Ph.D., Vice-Rector for Science and Innovation, expressed how satisfied she was, on behalf of the University, with achieved goals:

- Despite the challenges this pandemic posed before us, "InteRiV" project has been successfully completed. There will certainly be more interest for these studies, because we are dealing with modern and promising occupations, in addition, this project is important for creating preconditions for networking with other institutions, particularly in the context of the European University of the Seas Alliance (SEA-EU).

Both study programs are designed so that teaching focuses on students, are based on collaborative and active learning, and special attention is paid to learning through experience, that is connecting theory and practice.

Students who have already completed undergraduate study (acquiring 180 ECTS) in related fields can enroll the graduate study of Marine fisheries, interesting for all those who want to learn how to use marine resources in a controlled and sustainable manner, to adopt statistical models applied in marine fisheries and predict the impact of fishing on populations and composition of communities...

An important component of the graduate study of Marine Fisheries is the (professional) training/field work where students improve on what they have learnt and gain competencies in line with the labor market requirements.

Integrated undergraduate and graduate Military Naval Studies lasts for five years, or 10 semesters, has two majors ("Military Navigation" and "Military Shipbuilding"), completing it, one acquires at least 300 ECTS credits and the academic title Master military engineer, in either navigation or shipbuilding.

Students gain theoretical knowledge and practical maritime skills important for their profession and in line with national and international standards. Completing Military Naval studies, students’ general competencies are identical to those acquired at other maritime faculties.
