The fourth International meeting of scientists, professionals and students on Croatia’s environmental protection (ZORH) took place on April 20, 2023 at Faculty of Chemistry and Technology (KTF). The opening ceremony was attended by University of Split’s Vice-rector for science and innovation, prof. Igor Jerković Ph.D., KTF’s dean, Prof. Matko Erceg Ph.D., and Mayor of Split, prof. Ivica Puljak Ph.D..
ZORH is an international conference organized by students, which increases its importance. It is an opportunity for them to meet future employers who deal with environmental protection. Precisely with events like this the University strives to internationalize itself and achieve better placement on the Times Higher Education ranking list, according to United Nations’ goals, for example water and environmental protection or partnership for goals - vice-rector Jerković said, congratulating organizers on a successful conference, important for the University and entire region.
Important message we want to send is that our city’s, University and students’ project, focused on environmental protection and sustainable development. Our faculty has environmental protection study programs for about fifty years now, and the need for such education is constant. For that reason, the need for such jobs will increase in the future - Dean Erceg said.
Organizers were also congratulated by Mayor Puljak, who was particularly pleased that the meeting was organized by young people open to new technologies.
- This is one of the most important topics in the world today, and Split has the ambition to become the greenest city in this area. We take care of green and sustainable policies and we wish to develop in that direction – Puljak said, believing that preserving the environment largely depends on how willing we are to use modern technologies.
President of the 4th International ZORH meeting’s organizing committee, KTF student, Jelena Sedlar, said that at this year's meeting, they managed to bring together scientific experts and over 150 students to discuss environmental protection.
