First meetings of SEA-EU Alliance’s Steering Committee are completed, an event organized every six months by another partner in the 'European University of the Sea' Alliance. In the morning, Quality and Ethics Committee meeting and a Ukrainian Day panel took place in the University of Gdańsk’s library.
- Idea behind this committee is to coordinate all actions within the project and entire Alliance to ensure that they are of the highest quality. We focus on two aspects: quality and ethics' - said Professor Mile Dželalija from University of Split, leader of the meeting. - It is important that this quality also apply to our joint actions carried out in the Alliance, such as joint study and teaching programs or databases used in research. At today's meeting, among other things, we discussed two textbooks: on quality and on ethics. We also talked about supporting three working groups we are creating: for data protection, for ethics and for quality.
Next on the agenda was Ukrainian Day at University of Gdańsk Welcome Centre’s library. It was attended by representatives of the National University of Odessa, I. I. Mechnikov, who presented the potential of their institutions to members of the SEA-EU Alliance.
Next speaker was University of Gdańsk’s Rector, prof. dr. hab. Piotr Stepnowski, pointing out how he hoped that the actions so far would contribute to the positive decision of European Committee on possible joining of Ukrainian academies to European University project: - I hope that we will be able to convince the European Committee not only to allow Ukrainian universities to become Alliance’s associate partners, but also that in near future they can become full members and partners.
In the last part of the meeting, Sabine Menu and Svitlana Shytikova discussed possibilities of cooperation with Ukraine in the framework of various European programs. Former spoke about establishing and supporting cooperation between European and Ukrainian universities, and latter gave a presentation about ideas for internationalizing education, youth and sports in Ukraine (Ukrainian status in the EU Erasmus+ program 2023/2024).
