The sixth Smart City Challenge hackathon took place December 3 and 4 at the SPINIT incubator. As its name suggests, it is a hackathon focused on developing technological solutions based on IoT and smart technologies that can be applied in the local community.

First three places were taken by teams SmartNest, Green Team 2 and FlexGRID. Best teams shared the prize fund provided by the City of Split. SmartNest team was best and won HRK 12,000.00, Green Team 2 was second and won HRK 7,000.00, and FlexGRID the third, winning HRK 3,000.00 to further develop their solutions.

This year, the hackathon gathered over 40 participants in 10 different teams who developed solutions within one of these categories: smart housing, smart healthcare, smart environment, smart production, smart tourism, smart transportation and transport, smart citizens and Internet of Things (IoT).

The expert jury consisted of: Ivana Čuljak, COO@Invento Capital Partners & EIT Urban Mobility, Suren Markosian, CEO@Epic! and Vedrana Franić, authorized head of City of Split’s Service for Development.

The Hackathon was organized by the Split Entrepreneurship Center and Faculty of Economics’ Student Entrepreneurship Incubator, in partnership with the Faculty of Science and Mathematics and the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture (FESB), through projects financed by the Croatian Science Foundation. The City of Split, OTP Bank, Infokarta ltd. and dobartek.hr also provided support for the organization.

Hackathon Smart City Challenge took place as part of the Smart Youth project financed by European Union’s Solidarity Corps.
