Croatian Chemical Society – Split's Electoral Assembly and lecture "Synthetic molecular machines powered by light"

The Croatian Chemical Society Split, with its Electoral Assembly held on February 24, 2022, organized a lecture "Synthetic molecular machines powered by light." The lecture was given by assoc. prof. Marina Tranfić Bakić Ph.D., Split’ Faculty of Chemistry and Technology, Department of Biochemistry and the colloquium chaired by prof. Mladen Miloš Ph.D., Faculty of Chemistry and Technology.

This lecture presented recent examples of molecular machines that respond to light producing motion in the macrocyclic ring. In such systems, combination of photochemical and self-assembly processes creates a dynamic reaction cycle that uses light’s energy so that the system can operate autonomously in thermodynamic imbalance. Such systems have a great potential for application, for example for improving catalytic processes, in materials science, for energy conversion, in robotics and medicine.
