"ART&tecture" opened in the University Gallery

On University of Split’s Day, the exhibition ‘ART&tecture’, by the famous Croatian photographer, Zoran Alajbeg, was opened in the University Gallery.

The exhibition consists of 23 photographs with photo and video projection, and during the opening, professor emeritus Ivo Babić referred to University Campus’ recent past: The campus is not a closed, spatially and functionally isolated entity. Rather its function and contents radiate in its surroundings. Although the Campus was built to cater for the needs of the University, it contributes to the urbanization of a new part of Split with its contents and spatial idea.

The university generates not only stimulating scientific-teaching, but also artistic impulses. Such interventions - sculptures, installations, murals – get rid of the monotony and increase the semantic and aesthetic wealth of this area and, in doing so, increase its attractiveness.

At its opening, curator of the exhibition, assoc. prof. Dalibor Prančević Ph.D., addressed the audience referring to the author and his work; Alajbeg's compositions are largely devoid of the human figure, but certainly not of the presence of its trace, exposing everyday use and the occasional unexpected "practical" intervention to the building’s surface. This Zoran's photographic essay unequivocally comments and stresses the compact nature of this city and its university.

Vice-Rector, prof. Željko Radić Ph.D. said at the opening; this is truly a different way of looking at our campus and I am extremely glad to have the honour of opening this exhibition.

The exhibition is supported by funds from the City of Split and Croatia’s Ministry of Culture and Media.
